As a Rehabilitation Assistant you will provide therapy assistance to the Directing Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapists in the provision of PT and OT services to Ontario Health atHome eRehab patients in order to maximize the patient’s function, independence, and safety in their respective environment. Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm 

 

 

What will you do?

  • Implement treatment plan with patient under the direction of a registered therapist (PT/OT)
  • Assists registered therapists with patient assessments and treatment programs, in accordance with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO) and the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) guidelines
  • Utilizes Sensory Tech Platform (and/or other organizational platforms e.g. OTN) to receive clinical support from directing therapists to implement treatment plan
  • Completes and maintains documentation regarding patient intervention in accordance with Ontario Health atHome policies and procedures and CPO/COTO guidelines
  • Meets with the registered therapist regularly to discuss patient treatment plan and progress
  • Researches assessment, diagnosis, and intervention tools/aids/materials to assist the registered therapist in delivering patient services
  • Promotes maximum independence of the patient in the home, in the community, and at work to support re-integration into the community
  • Carries out all duties in accordance with Ontario Health atHome policies and procedures and Guidelines for the Use of Supportive Personnel developed by CPO and COTO
  • Contributes to a safe and healthy environment by following safe work procedures, reporting injuries, illnesses, and unsafe working conditions
  • Promots patient safety in alignment with the Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Directions of Ontario Health atHome
  • Works within the basic principles of patient safety by doing the right thing for the right patient, using the right method at the right time
  • Adheres to Ontario Health atHome patient safety policies and procedures

 

What you must have?

  • Graduate of an accredited Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapist Assistant 2-year diploma program
  • PTA/OTA certification recognized by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO) and the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) required
  • Previous experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant in a health care setting within the last two years

We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to start date

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy and physiotherapy professions
  • Clear understanding of the scope and limitations of the Rehabilitation Assistant’s role and their relationship with the registered therapist
  • Knowledge of equipment, modalities, materials, and intervention processes used in the provision of occupational therapy and physiotherapy services
  • Familiar with rehabilitation principals and clinical terminology used in interventions
  • Ability to prioritize multiple, competing demands
  • Knowledge of applicable COTO and/or CPO professional guidelines
  • Ability to accurately prepare required documentation, forms, and materials for patient records
  • Ability to organize and maintain filing systems
  • Ability to operate copy machines, fax machines, and other office equipment
  • Working knowledge of computer software (email, internet) and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to effectively exchange information with a variety of internal and external contacts
  • Ability to handle complaints from patients, their family members/caregivers/SDMs, and consult with higher authority when appropriate
  • Advanced written and oral proficiency in English
  • Administrative tasks and equipment/supply management duties are carried out with minimal direction
  • Maintains confidential and sensitive patient information
  • Demonstrates understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and the organization’s health and safety program, policies, and procedures. Attends Health and Safety in-services and takes action to address unsafe conditions and procedures to ensure a healthy and safe work environment
