What will you do?
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Manager will be responsible for leading and supporting HR staff in the effective delivery of Human Resources services including the key areas of recruitment, HR Information Systems, and benefits administration. The position additionally supports employee and labour relations activities, health and safety and will participate in a variety of HR projects and initiatives related to the Annual Business Plan and People Strategy. For this temporary 12-month contract, the successful candidate will provide a balanced presence across offices in North York and Brampton in our Central and Central West areas.
- Lead, manage, and develop a diverse team of direct reports within the Human Resources portfolio.
- Enhance systems and process efficiencies, seeking out opportunities for continuous improvement
- Provide operational management of the recruitment, systems and benefits programs in addition to general HR administration and service delivery
- Oversee and ensure the maintenance and accuracy of employment related data and records in all HR systems; guide systems configuration, testing and standardization activities
- Support Employee and Labour Relations activities including those related to health care transformation, workplace investigations, grievances while recommend strategies to manage and mitigate labour relations issues.
- Promote and support health, safety, wellness and recognition initiatives
- Responsible to guide and support relevant committees and work groups regarding implementation HR programs, initiatives and processes which may include: AODA, FLS, and HR Records Management, and transition and transformational changes
- Establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships at all levels in the organization to build trust and confidence in the Human Resources portfolio.
- Champion human resources best practices, develop and implement supporting policies, procedures, practices, and systems that comply with relevant legislation.
- Provide advice and counsel to leaders and staff on matters related to the human resources to support the fair and equitable application of human resources policies.
- Support the development and coaching of new and existing leaders on employee/labour relations and workforce matters.
- Keep informed of changing legislation, trends, issues, policies and procedures relating to human resources functions
- Integrate sound quality, safety and risk management practices into the business processes and day-to-day decisions.
- Follow safe practices related to the security and privacy of information.
- Accountable for taking every reasonable precaution to protect the health and safety of employees
- Responsible to ensure that equipment is safe, properly instructs employees on safe operation and use and ensure employees follow established safe work practices and procedures.
- Provide support and coverage to HR Leadership roles as necessary
What must you have?
- A university degree in Human Resources and/or Labour Relations, Business Administration and/or equivalent education and
- CHRP or CHRL an
- Five (5) years of progressive Human Resources experience in a unionized environment, including three (3) years’ experience in a leadership role with responsibilities including recruitment, pension and benefits administration and systems administration.
- Ability to accurately apply knowledge of related labour and employment legislation such as Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Knowledge of Human Resources leading practices, policies, processes and evaluation tools.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, assessment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple and competing HR projects, issues and initiatives simultaneously with the ability to work independently and co-operatively in a busy multidisciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated strength of negotiation and conflict resolution skills to resolve complaints, dispute and disagreements while maintaining positive working relationships used in the course of human resources activities.
- Demonstrated team leadership skills to empower staff, elicit input and cooperation, and motivate staff both within the department and across the organization.
- Political awareness in order to identify and respond to issues and to anticipate the likely reaction to statements, proposals, recommendations and situations.
- Experience implementing and/or configuring human resources information systems and related reporting
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Healthcare experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in French language is an asset.

$108,339 to $129,362
